Can Adults Dress Up for Halloween at Disney World in Costume?

My family is going to Disney World this Halloween, and we’ll be there during the Mickey’s Not So Spooky Halloween doo-dad. My twin sister and I (who are 21) have Hocus Pocus (Winnifred and Sarah Sanderson) costumes that we’d love to wear there for the party, but I’m finding mixed reviews on if we can wear them or not. I know you’re not allowed to wear costumes unless you’re under 12, but I’ve heard those rules don’t apply for the Halloween thing. Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

Normally, adults cannot wear anything resembling a costume. Children are allowed to dress up. This is because others may think those guests who are dressed up are actual characters. Disney can’t control the behavior of non cast members, so if a guest who is dressed up acts badly, it could be believed that it’s actual a Disney character acting badly. Then Disney would have to take the blame for that.

For the Halloween function, you are correct that these same rules don’t apply. All guests are allowed to dress up, and trick or treat for candy around the park. I have seen many, many adults & children alike dress up for the event. Since everyone is dressed up, it is unlikely that anyone will think a guest is really a character. So feel free to dress up!

If you are go during the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and you BOUGHT separate tickets for the party (it is not included with admission price) you can wear your costume. This is the only time when adults can wear costumes to Disney World. And, you can only wear it during the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and cannot wear your costume in the park before or after the party.
