DIY Kids' Costume Ideas?

I have a 4 month old boy that I need to design a costume for. I also have an 8 year old girl who I will probably also make a costume for. Any ideas???
I don’t have a lot of money to go uber-creative but would really like to come up with something creative, especially for my boy because my daughter’s 1st Halloween was a DIY ballerina costume.
Not into witches, ghosts, ‘dead’ things, or evil/creepy things.

FamilyFun.com has some adorable DIY costume ideas. I LOVE Family Fun magazine and the website. You could also google ‘home made costumes for babies" and that would bring up a lot of sites. You can be creative without spending a fortune.

My daughter was a big green grape.

My son is 13 months old and I am going to dress him up as a scarecrow. I am going to get yarn have some hanging from his pants and shirt sleeves. Maybe a hat and a little black nose!
No idea for the 8 yr old – I don’t know what is ‘cool’ now. Doesn’t she have ideas to present to you?

A skeleton would be easy but I guess that’s considered a dead thing lol.

How about a skunk, Mario/Luigi/Toadstool/Yoshi, a monkey, I made my 2 year old sons costume last year which was a prince and it got a lot of compliments, a knight, that’s all I got sorry. Check costume sites and see if you can DIY.

How about a cute bat? (attach some black fabric between the arm and the side of a sweat shirt/ long-sleeve T-shirt) Some bat ears and that’s it :D

A LEGO: just attached some painted cups

A Die (dice): Use a cardboard box.
