What Are Some Easy, Home-Made Costumes Kids Can Be?

My brother needs a costume but we don’t want to go and buy one, what’s something we can make using things around the house?

How old is he? If he’s under 6, you can do an animal really easily. Have him wear sweats — or any shirt and pants — the right color for whatever animal he’s being. Get some ears and a tail, and then paint the face on him.

If he’s a bit older, spraypaint a cardboard box and have him be a computer.

Have him wear grown-up-looking pajamas and robe, and use makeup to paint stubble on him like he needs a shave.

get a big white sheet. Cut some holes for eyes and nose.
Then he is a ghost =]

MAHARAJAH: Scarf, or one of your shirts, draped around his head, as turban. brooch or tin-foil badge on front of turban, (can you find a feather for this badge?) Your most colourful or satiny blouse, his trousers, a sash, or pillowcase version, chunky necklace, big brooch on sash.
Tin foil, roll all edges, so not sharp, wrap his arms, legs, torso, fashion a hat, if you have enough… stand back..does he look more like the TIN MAN from *Wizard of Oz, a SPACE-MAN, a Medievel KNIGHT, or just ready to throw in the oven?
SCARE-CROW * Any old clothes, and floppy hat. Do you have acess to packing straw, packing paper or shreaded from a local school, or office. Shove a little down his collar and up his sleeves, tape it in place.
My son made a great PINNOCHIO, pre long-nose. In his sister’s blouse, ribbon for a bow tie, his own shorts, packing or masking tape for braces/lieder-hosen. dip his finger in green, water-based or acrylic paint, for a quick attempt at Jiminy Cricket(spelling)..
ROBOT:Can you find a big box, so his head sticks out the top..smaller box on haed with front cut out. barbeque impliment taped to each arm. ( like Flight of the Conchords)
with a couple of metres / yards of green material, drapped around his shoulders, he has the makings of a TRIFFID..or lettuce??
ROBIN HOOD (or one of his merry-men) They dressed completly in green.(There’s that colour, again)
    Phew! Good Luck

One year I sewed a black cape with red lining, so my son could be dracula or a devil on the reverse side.
Buy matching sweat pants and sweat shirts in orange for a pumpkin, or green for a green bean or pea. Make a hat out of felt. The kids can wear the sweats for pajamas after the holiday.
